Case Study

London Business School is a business school and a constituent college of the federal University of London. LBS was founded in 1964 and awards post-graduate degrees. Its motto is "To have a profound impact on the way the world does business". LBS is consistently ranked amongst the world's best business schools. 

The Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynaecology’s former campus was adopted by the London Business School in 2019 and was repurposed in a full refurbishment and now accommodates a large function ball room and many open office spaces and classrooms.  

LBS was keen to transform the building and introduce smart lighting to save money, energy and create beautiful spaces. However, they quickly ran into multiple problems when exploring the idea.  

What quickly became apparent was the original wiring could not facilitate any level of intelligent control. The offices and multi-use spaces needed some special treatment too. On top of this, LBS had no assigned budget for introducing lighting control. Problem after problem kept piling up.  

That is until OCTO was discovered. OCTO is our easy to use, wirelessly controllable, connected lighting solution that gives users complete control of their luminaires via an intuitive app or smart accessories. One of the unique selling points of our OCTO smart lighting solution is that no additional hardware or cabling is required. Everything is built in. Completely squashing the problems LBS originally encountered. 

Our OCTO compatible Oxford LED was identified as a great solution for the project. A modern fully enclosed surface luminaire with curved low-profile appearance, the Oxford’s design is massively popular amongst the education and commercial sector. Available in multiple wattages and comes with a five-year warranty, the Oxford is a stylish surface linear perfect for this type of application.  

Overall, the project saw 300 devices paired to PIR sensors and switches for full scene control, automated lighting and increased energy saving. OCTO allowed LBS to control the experience and set different moods depending on the use of the room, perfect for staff and students. The PIR sensors installed at the site ensured that lighting within rooms was turned off when the room was not in use, saving LBS energy and ultimately reducing their lighting bills.  

OCTO is the ultimate all in one smart solution. LBS managed to take full advantage of OCTO by modernising the lighting system and benefiting from improved user experience and increased safety whilst also saving money and energy.
